Position Overview
The Senior Director of Emergency Services is responsible for the 33-bay emergency department, as well as the Level I trauma center. The emergency department averages 60,000 visits annually, 650 of which are true trauma cases. The position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and has responsibility for approximately 150 FTEs, including three clinical managers, a business manager, and a trauma director.
Qualified candidates will be registered nurses with a minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience and a background in emergency nursing. Ideal candidates will be participative, strategic thinkers who are highly visible, involved, successful change agents who are nurturing, yet firm. A Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree and experience working in a union environment are highly preferred.
Hospital Overview
This is a 537-bed, not-for-profit, Joint Commission accredited, tertiary care, teaching hospital with regional referral centers in heart and vascular care, cancer, women’s health, and orthopedics. The medical center also provides numerous areas of specialty care including: critical care center and stroke team, level III obstetric service, wound center and hyperbaric medicine, sleep disorders center, diabetes center, and spiritual care services among others.

Community Overview
Located in northwest Ohio, Akron has a population of approximately 210,000.
