Job Summary: 

 

As the Senior Cognos Administrator in our Corporate Information Services Department, this role is responsible for: the Cognos applications environment, including software configuration and upgrades; day to day administration, maintenance, and technical support; data modeling, development and report migration for supporting our KLC internal / external customers.

 

The ideal candidate will combine strong Cognos development and administration background with strong technical leadership skills. The role will work closely with developers and BI production support staff to ensure that the system is configured optimally to support business needs.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Responsibilities include planning, developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the Cognos applications environment as well as training BI developers, analysts and modelers on best practice methodologies. The Senior Cognos Administrator will also serve as the BI technical lead in related projects governed by the PMO.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Provide technical support for Cognos 8 applications including report analysis, development, maintenance, and report migration. Install, upgrade, configure and administer Cognos products, including ETL.Proactively monitor the all BI environments for capacity and performance related issues and take steps necessary to address them.Responsible for developing and maintaining Framework Manager models, applying proper security and publishing packages.Responsible for creating new Cognos groups and roles in Cognos Connection. Responsible for providing Cognos access by assigning roles and maintaining security for auditing purposes. Provide training, support, and best practices for Adhoc Query users and Report Authors Familiarity with OLAP Dimensional Modeling techniques and best practices.Design and build Oracle tables, views, and complex SQL statementsAct as primary technical contact to Cognos for support and enhancement issuesMentor junior Cognos administration team membersProvide occasional weekend on-call support for BI applicationsDemonstrate solid understanding of Oracle Applications Proactively identify, build, and maintain relationships with business process owners and colleagues Demonstrate solid ability to understand, analyze, and solve problems Recognize and promptly advise management of potential problems and or potential follow-on business opportunities Understand the mechanics of project administration, project timelines, budgets, issue tracking/resolution, and status reporting Produce quality deliverables on time and within budgetKeep current with new products / technologies that provide for continuous improvement in KLC’s BI Architecture

Experience and Education:

 

BS or BA in computer science, business, or equivalent preferred.Excellent knowledge of Cognos 8 BI Suite (Query Studio, Report Studio, PowerPlay Transformer, Metrics Studio, Event Studio, Framework Manager, administration).UNIX and/or Linux experienceWindows Server experienceETL experience, such as Informatica PowerCenter and/or Cognos Data Manager desirable3+ years of experience in Oracle development technologies such as PLSQL,
SQL Plus, and 10g.3+ years of experience in MS SQL Server technologies and stored proceduresStrong general SQL knowledge for utilization in query optimization and tuning in a BI environmentOracle Internet DirectorySource control and version control for change managementExtensive application support experience
