More information can be found at www.covidien.com. •Performs required purchasing tasks to procure assigned parts, materials, supplies, equipment and services required for operation of business. •Contacts suppliers, obtains and evaluates quotations, places orders, and ensures timely delivery. Exercises judgement and in-depth knowledge of assigned commodities to make purchases consistent with specified levels of quality, delivery, and price. Negotiates and writes contracts as needed to purchase goods and services. Uses knowledge of financial analysis to evaluate make/buy alternatives and lease/buy options. •Makes recommendations for policies and procedures which will improve quality, cycle time, and cost of procurement function. Recommends substitutes and/or changes to specifications as required. •Maintains commodity responsibility from receipt of requisition, placement of orders, change orders, receipt of parts, acceptance of parts to stock, and disposition of discrepant material throughout the life of the product. •Recommends new technology and/or suppliers to engineers. •Performs follow-up operations with suppliers to accomplish delivery of purchased items per schedule. Expedites delivery of critical material. •Ensures requisitions, purchase orders and changes are input into system and documented in a timely manner in accordance with established procedures and legal requirements. •Develops overall commodity plans for assigned items. Assists other buyers in development of their commodity plans. •Serves in a liaison capacity between appropriate company personnel and supplier representatives to ensure suppliers are equipped with needed tools, materials, and specifications to obtain solutions to problems. •Maintains and reports purchasing measurements which indicate buyer and supplier performance. •Anticipates, recognizes, and advises management of potential or current problems which may have significant impact on business, after exhausting all means within limits of delegated authority to solve such problems. •Provides guidance to other lower level buyers and assumes purchase responsibility for any commodity in department as required. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. ISM or APICS certification preferred. Minimum four (4) years experience with purchasing components, commodities, or services, preferably in a medical or high tech manufacturing environment. Experience with custom fabricated components and new product development activities is desirable. Skilled negotiator with working knowledge of contract terms and conditions.
