We are currently seeking a part-time Senior Biologist/Ecologist. 

Candidate will: 
Assists senior personnel, under the appropriate level of supervision required by the task, in the planning and execution of projects and/or proposals related to Biology/Ecology. 
Acts as a Field Operations Leader or Task Manager on simple projects/tasks related to Biology/Ecology; field work may be at hazardous waste sites, requiring medical clearance and OSHA training. 
Supervises and/or performs the acquisition, processing and analysis of data; and prepares or reviews calculations, tables, graphs, maps and other visual materials for projects and proposals. Conducts investigations, observations and research and prepares reports or memoranda regarding results related to Biology/Ecology. 
Operates and calibrates specialized field equipment related to Biology/Ecology. 
Develops text sections related to Biology/Ecology in reports and proposals. 
Performs (under supervision) or assists procurement and contracts personnel in developing technical specifications and reviewing bids related to Biology/Ecology. 
Remains current with technical literature and/or government/agency regulations pertaining to Biology/Ecology. 
Coordinates with other disciplines the Biology/Ecology aspects of projects. 
Assists senior personnel in commercial correspondence and prepares routine technical correspondence. 
Assists in the implementation of Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Programs. 
Tasks may also involve preparation for field trips, calibration of field instruments, collection and processing of water, groundwater, sediment, vegetation and fish samples, documentation of field and laboratory activities, operating motorboats, be proficient with trailering, and decontamination of sampling equipment. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Bachelor degree 
• Knowledge of ecological, water chemistry and quality, and laboratory principles;
• Demonstrated knowledge of ground water, surface water, sediment, fish and vegetation quality sampling techniques per South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) & Florida Department of Environmental Protection SOPs (two years of water quality sampling experience required). 
• Specific knowledge of SFWMD procedures related to sample and data processing (including preparation of Calibration logs, Chain of Custody and field notes documentation) 
• Demonstrated skill in operating, calibrating and maintaining data collection instruments, including multi-parameter water quality instruments (YSI, Hydrolab, etc.), data loggers, automatic samplers and atmospheric deposition collectors. 
• GPS experience (use in navigation and delineation: Trimble, Garmin, Magellan) 
• Knowledge of Windows operating systems 
• Knowledge of MS Word, and Excel 

DESIRED SKILLS: 
• Mechanical knowledge associated with engines (2 cycle and 4 cycle), electrical systems 
• Boat or Airboat handling experience 
• Experience with four-wheel drive vehicle operation 
• CPR and First Aid Training 
• Experience with conducting vegetation surveys • SCUBA certified 
• Experience with hoop trap and dip netting 
• Experience with identification of Southeastern flora and fauna
• Experience with environmental media quality monitoring (surface water, ground water, pore water, sediment, fish, vegetation) 

ABILITY TO: 
a) swim; 
b) lift up to 40 lbs; 
c) work for extended periods of time in the field, under hot or cold, humid, wet conditions and in areas occupied by wildlife such as alligators, snakes, and stinging/biting insects; 
d) work on uneven terrain; 
e) work standing for extended periods of time; 
f) clearly communicate both orally and in writing; 
g) ride as a passenger over rough terrain in trucks and boats for extended periods of time; 
h) wade into water to collect samples; 
i) climb sampling towers; and
j) process fish where strong odors shall be present. 

Good communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint are essential.
