SUMMARY

 

The HR Knowledge Advisor utilizes generalist HR knowledge and expertise to advise members on practical human resource management and business topics.  Develops and facilitates the creation of human resource-related online and print products. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

·         Advises members on strategies for resolving practical human resource problems.  Reviews information provided and recommends options and resources.

·         Provides written documentation of guidance given (whenever possible) by using library reference, internet and database sources.  Draws on knowledge and experience as well as education in human resources and related fields to supplement research tools.

·         Balances multiple priorities by communicating with members using several media -- phone, email and instant messaging and maintains accountability for accurately and efficiently responding to all inquiries.  Conducts customized online research in real-time using the best sources available.

·         Acts as an internal consultant for other HR Knowledge Advisors by sharing knowledge from specialty areas within HR.

·         Monitors changes in federal and state laws and regulations and other current topics in HR so that members can rely upon the Knowledge Center as the best, first, source of HR knowledge.  Identifies trends in member interests and in HR practices for planning and resource development purposes as requested.

·         Recommends books, journals, and other materials for library acquisition, based on recognized information needs of the membership.

·         Contributes written material to SHRM publications including a column published weekly online and monthly in print.  Creates and/or reviews other materials for publication such as samples, white papers and more.

·         Coordinates efforts required to produce at least one special project each year, such as data compilation and publishing for online products.  May also be asked to contribute to other projects as needed.

·         Participates in professional development activities to ensure that human resources knowledge base is current.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

A minimum of 5 years of experience in all areas of human resource management in multiple environments.  (A Master’s Degree in HR may substitute for some of the years of experience.) Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field strongly preferred. Current PHR/SPHR certification is required within 1 year of employment. Clear and professional speaking and writing ability and overall communication style suited to the “business friendly” tone used with members. Customer Service commitment: resourceful, diplomatic, team-oriented and sensitive to the needs of members and staff. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.  Ability to use multiple computer systems, programs, and types of equipment, including web-based databases, for research purposes.  Internet savvy and able to efficiently operate all systems to ensure turnaround time standard is maintained or exceeded.   Ability to use or learn Internet based databases and other online systems and stay current as such systems change. Ability to respond to member requests very rapidly, often within a couple of hours, or immediately on Live Chat.  Ability to change the focus of activity swiftly from one task to another as demand warrants. Ability to comply with established schedule to ensure member needs are met and workload is balanced among all team members.
