VeriSign’s Managed Security Services Organization is seeking motivated and knowledgeable Security Analysts to provide technical support for VeriSign's Managed Security Services on 2nd (4pm-12:30am) or 3rd (12am – 8:30am) shift in a 7x24x365 Security Operations Center. Shifts run Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday.

 

This is a full time employment opportunity with VeriSign, Inc (Enterprise Security Division) in Providence Rhode Island. The ideal candidates will reside in or near Providence, RI.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Based in the Providence Security Operations Center, and reporting to the Manager of Device Health and infrastructure, this position manages and/or monitors a wide variety of customer firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention devices and log hosts associated with VeriSign's Managed Security Services. The devices are part of an industry leading offering package to ensure unsurpassed network security. Incumbents must demonstrate advanced analytical and troubleshooting skills while ensuring consistent operational status of these customer devices. The work environment is a fast-paced, customer focused security operations center (SOC) that handles incoming telephone calls, emails, and automatically generated tickets.

 

§          Provide technical support for VeriSign's Managed Security Services on 2nd (4pm-12:30am) or 3rd (12am – 8:30am) shift in a 7x24x365 SOC. Shifts run Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday.

§          Take ownership of and troubleshoot new health alerts contained in automatically generated tickets. The alerts will notify you of devices that aren’t reachable, have stopped logging, down interfaces, CPU spikes, run out of memory, etc. due to hardware/software failures, problems with customer networks, ISPs, failed upgrades, unexpected changes, etc.

§          Resume troubleshooting of ongoing and long term issues regularly by working out of a queue with “pending” alerts.

§          Remotely manage customer devices using secure shell sessions, web interfaces or console sessions from out of band modems to implement fixes for problems that arise.

§          Consistently meet service level agreements regarding response time on incoming tickets and telephone calls.

§          Demonstrate excellent communication and customer care skills by documenting all analysis, work, and communications within our ticketing system.

§          Identify areas for improvement in procedures, and the health checks. Propose improvements to management and development accordingly.

§          Work with support groups (engineering, development) to resolve internal infrastructure outages. Identify scope of outages and communicate this information to management along with resolution. This includes but is not limited to the ticketing system, authentication servers, databases, productivity tools, and management consoles.

§          Professionally and courteously answer inbound calls, authenticate callers, create or update tickets for all work and informational requests, handle customer complaints, and escalate according to established procedures. This will include communicating with the other teams inside and outside the SOC.

§          Train new hires in the appropriate procedural and technical areas.

§          Take basic technical escalations from junior analysts and members of other teams.

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

 

§          Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

§          Exceptional ability to manage your time and stay organized.

§          Advanced skills personal computer skills to accomplish daily tasks with electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.

§          Prior experience with ticketing systems is strongly recommended.

§          Advanced understanding of Unix or Linux operating systems including but not limited to navigating the directory structure, identifying and restarting processes, finding the disk usage, retrieving network interface statistics, basic scripting, identifying problems from log files, use of regular expressions, and identifying file attributes (dates, permissions, size, etc) from a command line interface.

§          Advanced understanding of computer network fundamentals including but not limited to address resolution protocol, routing, network address translation, virtual private networks, and the OSI model.  Solid understanding of TCP/IP required.

§          Ability to read and interpret network diagrams.

§          Solid understanding of intrusion detection, firewall operations, and other general security practices.

§          Resourceful nature and the ability to learn new skills and adapt to different situations with minimal preparation.

§          Technical certifications (CompTIA, Cisco, etc) and/or a Bachelors degree in a technical area strongly preferred.

§          Solid scripting experience in Perl preferred

§          3+ years of professional experience in a related field is strongly preferred.
