The SAP Development Manager directs, manages, and coordinates the development and enhancement of SAP application solutions outside standard configuration to support current and future group business operations and strategies. He/she provides management direction and leadership regarding business system solution planning, systems design, systems construction and systems testing as a global group shared service function. The SAP Development Manager is responsible for establishing effective and efficient SAP Development policies and processes following best demonstrated practices. He/she will build, lead and coach a professional staff with sufficient skills and experience for world class application development and support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Works with the Applications Development Services Team on overall Service vision and strategy.

Responsible for all job functions of subordinate department personnel.

Sets department goals and objectives and drives organization toward achievement of those goals and objectives

Works with Enterprise Architecture team to develop scalable and flexible IT solutions. Ensures adherence to agreed on architecture standards and guidelines.

Assists with the design of SAP programs/objects to meet group business solution needs partnering with Global Client Services and the SAP Design and Configuration resources.

Directs the development, maintenance, and support of SAP programs/objects to meet group business solution needs in a geographically distributed, matrix-managed organization.

Ensure the use of demonstrated best practices for application programming, testing, and change control.

Develops and implements department policies and procedures consistent with local, regional, and global expectations.

Manages SAP application enhancement delivery and support to agreed upon SLAs and metrics.

Ensures team resolves problems occurring with existing systems, consistently following change control procedures.

Directs the SAP development resources to optimize Enterprise system solutions, processes, and quality.

Ensure that SAP development resources are working in compliance with programming standards, software development life cycle standards, department policies, and all appropriate quality assurance processes.

Recommends, selects and directs consulting or outsourced resources to augment organic staff or reduce costs.

Recruit, develop, retain and motivate a virtual IT team operating at a high performance level. Make appropriate business decisions regarding the “extended staff” model to maximize the effectiveness of all resources - internal staff, consultants, project staff and external service providers. Develop a user-centric service attitude in IT staff to enhance both internal and external customer focus through responsive and innovative technology.

Perform all activities in compliance with the internal and external requirements / standards for Health & Safety, Quality, Regulatory and Finance.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or information technology management.

Masters degree in business management and/or information technology fields preferred.

Equivalent experience in combination with other degrees will be considered.

Experience in information systems, applications and project management, preferably in regulated medical device industry.

Management of multiple development projects for SAP or other major systems required.

Management experience in distributed IS organizations directing SAP application development and support.

Professional certification(s) in application development methodologies preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Microsoft Office Suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Project and Internet Explorer.
