Potbelly Sandwich Works began in Lincoln Park, Chicago, in 1977 as a mom-and-pop antique store heated by a potbelly stove. The store began selling warm toasted sandwiches, and immediately rocked customers’ socks. So the owners ditched the antique sales, added more menu items, recruited live musicians, and … bam! A Chicago cult classic was born!

 

Since then, Potbelly has expanded to more than 180 stores in multiple states and is growing by leaps and bounds across the U.S. We’re found in such diverse areas as college campuses, downtown city blocks, and the ’burbs. And we’re growing and growing – in fact, Crain’s Chicago Business estimated our 5-year growth rate at an amazing 1055.8 percent.  That means that by 2010, we will have doubled in size!
