Position Summary: Administers respiratory care to patients as ordered by the attending physician. Conducts diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, therapy.
Reports To: Manager/Charge Therapist
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Required: Sufficient college credits to qualify for registry exam or Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Therapist program required.
Preferred: Acute Care Hospital experience
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:Required: Registered Respiratory Therapist credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Texas. BLS
Preferred: ACLS and/or NRP
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to patient care. Uses a wide range of therapeutic and diagnostic modalities in the treatment of cardiopulmonary diseases and conditions including oxygen and other specialty gases, aerosolized drugs, chest physiotherapy, resuscitators, ventilators, aspirators, pulmonary function, arterial blood analysis. Capable of monitoring and treating patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. Works closely with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals; other contacts include visitors, vendors, and staff from other area hospitals. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. Ability to read and write in English. Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the department and with department customers.
