AMEC is looking for a Resident Engineer to manage a rail construction project in Northern Minnesota. This position will offer long term career opportunities for a qualified person in rail road construction or other types of construction or design work.
Primary duties of the Resident Engineer include responsibility for subcontractor coordination, scheduling, and quality control. This person will act as a project engineer performing a variety of engineering duties in the areas of highway location, design, maintenance, traffic engineering or construction; including supervision of lower level staff assigned to the work unit. Exercises considerable independent judgment with in general state standards and guidelines. Also capable of performing additional construction management activities including development procurement - construction schedules, construction subcontracts scopes, review of subcontracts terms and conditions, performance of constructability and value engineering reviews, construction estimating and schedule reviews, and project construction performance presentations
Supervises or inspects highway construction on an ongoing basis to assure compliance with contract and in accordance with State and Federal standards. Inspects and examines Engineering Project Records, Field Notes, Computations and other Documentation to assure that methods of measurement and basis for payment are consistent with contract requirements. Reviews construction plans and verifies that these are in accordance with designated specifications and other requirements to include calculating of land areas, using geometric and trigonometric computations. Prepares complete work estimates to determine the compensation due to the contractor. Attends work unit staff meetings, give and received information; participates in problem solving and decision making. Supervises and or inspects all work activities involved in construction projects, including survey, laboratory, and quality control work. Recommend approval of proposed project changes.
Requirements:Preferred residence in Itasca County, Minnesota or surrounding counties and / or Minnesota Iron Range area or ability to relocate.
Civil or Geotechnical Engineer with over 10 years experience and a MN PE is a must.
Knowledge of MnDOT road grade specifications necessary.
Rail experience preferred.
Knowledge of construction management and contracts management
Ability to manage up to 10 field staff and interact with clients and respond positively for AMEC to their requests.
Able to discern project scope changes and respond quickly to changing conditions in order to secure project change orders as necessary.
Ability to grow a civil and/or geotechnical presence in Northern Minnesota for future business opportunities for AMEC
