Under the supervision of a Senior Scientist I-III, the Research Biologist performs both standard and experimental laboratory assignments as required, for collecting, analyzing, and reporting of study data, all in accordance with Regulatory and Merial procedures. Provides laboratory and other support for pharmaceutical discovery and pre-development efforts.
1. With guidance, performs study procedures as assigned, including assistance in inoculation of trial animals with infective organisms (parasites, bacterial inoculum) and/or with implementation of animal models in either the target or surrogate animal species. Supports in vitro and/or ex vivo study procedures as required.
2. Assists with development and/or adaptation of analytical, parasitological or cell culture techniques and equipment, if appropriate for protocol requirements. Provides support for Merial’s pharmaceutical discovery efforts and directly impacts its performance based on the quality of work and support material provided.
3. Performs sampling, counting, and identification of parasites.
4. Responsible for assembling, compiling and recording all laboratory data in an organized manner.
5. With guidance performs analytical and clinical pathology testing for studies.
6. Assists with maintenance of endo-and-ecto parasites for infection and infestation studies supporting discovery pre-development and development programs.
7. Provides recommendations regarding analytical, parasitological, or cell culture process based on analysis of data gathered during studies or process/method development.
8. Provides on-the-job training to new team members.
9. Orders and maintains laboratory supplies in sufficient quantities.
10. Responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the laboratory.
11. Performs all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Merial guidelines and policy.
Qualifications: A B.S. degree or equivalent in a subject relevant to the laboratory’s work. Minimum of two years training and experience in related laboratory techniques. MS degree a plus.
