SAIC Frederick, Inc., the operations and technical support contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick has an immediate opportunity for a Research Associate II in our Laboratory of Immunopathogenesis and Bioinformatics.  You will independently perform research and development under the review of a scientist, to perform both high-throughput service-oriented research and in-house basic research.  This includes various cellular and molecular techniques related to the study of HIV and HCV immunopathogenesis.  This involves using various Affymetrix technologies including those for exon expression analysis, genome-scale genotyping, and CHIP-on-CHIP analysis.  Will independently evaluate the suitability and quality control of extract material from patient samples and/or other cellular sources. Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous chemical and biological material or may be located in areas where such materials are used.  May require the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols.

 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with course work in a field related biomedical research or 4 years related experience in lieu of degree required.  In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of 5 years of related biomedical experience is required.  Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years related biomedical experience. Must have experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques including quantifying and handling human DNA and RNA, real-time PCR, tissue culture, protein-work such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot and immunoprecipitation.  Experience with proper specimen handling, computerized tracking, and good computer skills in general are required. Capable of high-quality scientific writing and scientific presentation a must.  Must be able to function independently both in a high-throughput and basic research environment; a detailed-oriented individual with excellent QA/QC judgment is critical. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust clearance.   .
