POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research and Program Evaluation, the Research Analyst will provide analytic and database maintenance support to the Office.
The Research Analyst responsibilities include:
• Collect, analyze, maintain, and report statistical institutional data and information online and in print, including the annual updates of the Graduate Center on-line fact book and the Office of Institutional Research and Program Evaluation website.
• Coordinate the administration, data collection, and production of reports for the annual survey of alumni and annual exit surveys.
• Respond to periodic external surveys, such as, Council of Graduate Schools, US News, and Middle States to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Conduct analyses and produce data summaries in support of program reviews, the Performance Management Process, and Middle States accreditation self-studies.
• Assist in conducting various statistical research studies focusing on student recruitment, enrollment, retention, admissions, and financial aid.
• Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Institutional Research to maintain the doctoral faculty membership database, recording new appointments and change in status or rank; soliciting semi-annual updates from the programs; publishing information quarterly and in the Bulletin, and providing ad hoc statistical summaries.
• Assist in reporting doctoral instructional activity and Graduate Center faculty workload to the Central Office via CUPS (City University Personnel System). Prepare the summary of GC faculty instructional, administrative, and research activity for the Provost's review of workload compliance.
• Monitor programs to insure compliance with limits set on Instructional and Administrative Activity.
• Respond to time-critical ad-hoc requests for data and information, both internally and externally.
• Support other institutional research and program evaluation functions as needed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred, in a field related to educational or social research emphasizing research methods. An advance degree and/or prior experience in higher education is a plus. Candidate must have four years of related experience and strong analytical skills, be detail oriented, and have strong organizational ability. S/he must also have solid working knowledge of SPSS, including SPSS syntax, and must be knowledgeable in current data collection techniques and have demonstrated skill and experience with database systems and software applications, including MS Word, Excel and Access; knowledge of BANNER is highly preferred. Experience with web development or web designing tools is also a plus. Candidate should have excellent ability to communicate effectively with administrative staff and other constituents.
