NAVAL REACTORS FACILITY - IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO
The Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) is operated for the Department of Energy by Bechtel Bettis, Inc., and is located at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). NRF receives, examines and prepares naval spent nuclear fuel for temporary storage. The information derived from the examinations provides engineering data on nuclear reactor environments, material behavior, and design performance. This data is used to develop new technology and to improve the cost-effectiveness of existing designs.
NRF is seeking a Quality Engineer.
Duties: Provide quality oversight in review of technical work documents for various processes, including: receiving, storing, and processing of nuclear materials; loading of radioactive material shipments; participation in design reviews for various components and construction items up to large scale buildings; and manufacture of components and parts for handling, processing and movement of nuclear and complex systems materials. Interact with the engineering work force in an effort to help mainstream quality assurance and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations. Review and approve purchase order requisitions for new items and spares, deficiency reporting paperwork, technical work documents, vendor submittals and drawings. Provide training for Nuclear Inspectors and Engineering personnel. Help write, maintain, and revise local Quality Assurance procedures. Participate in data certification and validation for future shipments to a monitored geologic repository.
Job Skills and Qualifications: Computer literacy with Microsoft Office products and experience using databases. Excellent written and verbal skills required. Should have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time constraints with excellent analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to work well with others. Have a working knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes, including mechanical, electrical, structural, lead and concrete shielding, piping, welding, plating, and non-destructive testing. Must be capable of qualifying as a radiation worker and receiving occupational exposure to ionizing radiation.
Education: BS in Engineering or Science and equivalent experience in manufacturing and quality programs. Navy Nuclear power background preferred.
