SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER – SURFACE TREATMENTS

You will take two trips to Europe per year, some to Mexico and Canada, with the balance in the United States. You will manage your own travel, setting your own schedule and itinerary. POSITION CONTENT AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIP (S):

Reviews processes to achieve quality assurance of surface treated purchased items for production. Insures APQP / PPAP is followed on purchased surface treated items. The SQA is supplier, part and process oriented. Reports to the Manager of the group.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Informs the suppliers of company purchasing requirements and monitors supplier’s performance to said requirements.

·        Carries out quality assurance activities with the suppliers, including administrative work to facilitate supplier performance to requirements.

·        Verify and report fulfilment of APQP.

·        Insure APQP is performed and proceeding in accordance to required project timing.

·        Insure APQP is on schedule and participate in Process Audits, Part Handling Reviews, P-FMEA, D-FMEA, Control Plan development, packaging issues and other APQP elements as required. 

·        Verify PPAP submissions are accurate and represent acceptable production ready product per design intent.

·        Initiate and participate in corrective actions whenever necessary to insure suppliers are performing to root cause analysis and permanent corrections.

·        Initiate and maintain documentation to control the LPS (Low Performing process) for suppliers with poor performance as determined by the LPS process.

·        Monitor suppliers total quality performance including delivery. 

·        Communicate quality and/or surface treatment objectives between supplier and the company.

·        Participate in evaluating suppliers via use of multiple documented evaluation processes.  Examples: Surface Treatment Improvement Model, Supplier Evaluation Model and Process Index Audits.

·        Initiate and conduct onsite evaluations of surface treatment systems at existing and potential suppliers.

·        Develop and lead surface treatment costs and improvement initiatives at current and potential suppliers.

·        Responsible to develop a plan to manage the approved surface treatment suppliers and insure there is adequate approved sources to support the surface treatment needs of the supply base.

 

RESULTS AND DELIVERABLES:

Education of suppliers on quality issues.APQP planning and approvals.

·        PPAP planning and approvals.

·        Sign PPM agreements.

·        Problem action plans.

·        Supplier evaluations, indexes, approvals (if trained and authorized).

·        Supplier process audit report.

·        Support delivered by supplier for company projects in reference to cost, time and performance requirements.

·        Support delivered by supplier to help run company production according to company quality and rationalisation requirements.

·        Support that supplier delivers to help minimize company warranty issues.

·        Quality and Process improvements at suppliers.

·        Approved list of suppliers approved for surface treatment.

·        Approved list of suppliers for phase out of surface treatment.

·        Maintain potential supplier list for surface treatment.

·        Communication of all surface treatment activities / deliverables to company buying community.

 

EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Prefer a BS degree or equivalent industrial experience in surface treatment with a minimum 4 years practical experience related to surface treatment processes, primarily pre treatment of steel.

·        Good knowledge of Surface Treatment process control and quality assurance techniques

·        Practical knowledge of Surface Treatment systems, evaluations, and performance metrics.

·        Knowledge of OEM brand standards, ASTM test standards, methods, requirements and processes.
