Position Overview

Why join the Water Systems Leadership Team: The Water Systems Business is a market leader driving aggressive growth in the Water Well, Agriculture, and Residential Pump markets. The primary objective of this role is to develop, implement, and coordinate the product assurance programs to prevent or eliminate deficiencies in new or existing products or processes. Responsible for overall product quality and leadership of the QA group which includes jurisdiction over documentation, receiving and in-process inspection, calibration, and administration of non-conforming material. Works independently on assignments including warranty reduction, capital expenditures, data collection and analysis, and quality improvement initiatives that support the Water System’s Strategic Plan and Operations objectives. Working with the combination of operations, engineering, marketing, sales, and customer service makes for a winning formula to bring world-class products and service to market.

Major Areas of Accountability

· Oversees development and performance of quality systems for the Delavan location. Leads key initiatives that leverage cost and customer satisfaction improvements through advances in product quality.

· Identifies and documents current “Best Practices” and appropriate metrics for industry equivalent quality systems. Defines weaknesses and acts as change agent to improve existing quality system.

· Conducts location-wide training on the quality system. Interprets quality philosophy to key personnel in the organization. Designs and implements quality training programs for key personnel.

· Ensures that documented inspection criteria are followed and maintained. Develops new inspection criteria in conjunction with engineering teams. Reviews all data obtained during quality control/assurance activities to insure conformance to business policy and procedure. Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry codes and standards.

· Continuously reviews the need to inspect product based on supplier history and part history. Will monitor inspection levels and change as permissible to decrease the number of required inspections.

· Supports assembly/test and machining by analyzing data and troubleshooting processes that have demonstrated a detrimental impact on quality. Assists in developing corrective action plans and provides guidance in using quality tools such as SPC, trend analysis, Pareto analysis, fishbone diagrams, and other tools as necessary.

· Develops and coordinates a quality audit system of manufacturing processes.

· Provides management reports on direct labor, variance, first pass yield, and returned material. Reviews information to identify trends regarding the quality of the product or process. Provides guidance to process leads, engineers and coordinators on improvement opportunities.

· Assists in failure analysis on returned products and reports findings to appropriate department for corrective action. Will provide appropriate documentation on corrective action to customers and will insure corrective action is completed.

· Manages the documentation and disposition of the non-conforming material process. Insures that product is properly segregated, tagged and dispositioned prior to being released to production.

· Visits and confers with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality, capacity of vendor to meet orders, and vendor quality standards. Insures that the supplier first article process is maintained.

· Confers with engineers about quality assurance of new product designs to minimize field complaints and warranty returns.

· Develops and manages budget for quality department.

· Coordinate communications and corrective actions with customers when quality problems arise.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

BS in engineering or related field or equivalent experience Seven or more years experience in a Quality function or equivalent combination of education and experience, ASQ certification preferred Must be knowledgeable in PC Programs (spreadsheets, word processing, database) and familiar with inspection equipment
