Position Description:

Effectively manage and set priorities for the Publications team of 25 editors, graphics artists, printers, A/V personnel, and customer service representatives. Initiate and lead on-going standardization and process improvement initiatives to streamline and automate product design, production and distribution in all media Help set standards and guidelines for products in all media, ensuring that they meet standards of excellence. Provide technical expertise and direction, and recommend/implement improvements and new technologies to ensure state-of-the-art publishing systems and processes Participate in implementation of information life cycle best practices into Laboratory publishing Provide expert guidance with respect to editing, style, process, and technology Communicate clearly and often with project teams, customers, and facilitate information service projects Keep current with new publishing solutions and technologies, including multi-channel and XML applications. Identify and implement standard metrics to monitor publications products and services Requirements: B.A. in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or similar field A minimum of 5 years of experience supervising a busy technical publications service department 10 years experience as production designer / artist / editor Experience transforming primarily print services to an automated electronic product focus Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of negotiating with senior management and marketing the quality and importance of technical communications' services Ability to multi-task and support team objectives in a demanding, deadline-driven environment Project management skills: able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills Keen eye for detail with superior editorial skills Excellent skills within the MS Office suite of products; experience with print layout, graphic design, and media production software and technologies Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment Strong commitment to customer service
