Making It Count is currently recruiting contract speakers for our upcoming 2008 programs, “Making High School Count” and “The Ultimate Road Trip.” These 45-minute presentations are offered to high school and college freshmen from July-December 2008.
Making It Count, a division of Monster Worldwide, is the industry leader in “edutainment” delivering more than 11,000 free educational presentations to high school students, college students, and parents nationwide. Speakers offer motivation and information to students on how to make the most of their high school experience, succeed in college, and best prepare themselves to maximize their opportunities upon graduation. By achieving these goals, Making It Count will play a meaningful role in reversing the long-term negative trends in college graduation rates and graduate employment statistics. Since 1998, we have reached more than 18 million students!
Our Program Coordinators call on schools daily, signing them up for our free programs. Regional Managers then contact our speakers nationwide and check their availability to deliver the scheduled presentations. Making It Count provides the program content (i.e. scripts) for speakers. To become certified as a speaker, you must attend and certify at our all-expenses-paid, top-quality, professional training to be held in July 2008. Compensation varies between $100 and $250 per presentation based upon distance traveled for the presentation. Once certified, all speakers are hired as independent contractors. Independent contractors are not eligible for benefits.
The average speaker will deliver approximately 10-15 presentations per semester depending upon the following:
Ø School sign-ups in your area
Ø Your speaking ability
Ø Your availability
Ø Your flexibility (travel, driving, overnight trips, flights)
SPEAKER CRITERIA:
Ø Associate or Bachelor’s degree (minimum requirement)
Ø Excellent public speaking skills
Ø Ability to speak to and engage large (100-800) audiences of students and educators
Ø Vocal projection and variance
Ø Strong stage presence and image of professional success
Ø Flexible schedule during school hours
Ø Immediate access to email and the Internet
Ø Reliable transportation
Ø Ability and willingness to travel up to three hours by car
VIDEO PRESENTATION TIPS (What to do and what not to do)
Ø Video does NOT have to be created by a professional
Ø Video content is open to topic – should be something you are passionate about that will also engage high school students – we are looking for your ability to relate to the students.
Ø Please STAND UP during your presentation.
Ø To give us an idea of your enthusiasm, pretend that you are presenting to 500 high school students in an auditorium.
Ø We do not use podiums – please show us your ability to “work the room.”
Ø An introduction to your presentation is not necessary – please set your video to begin with your actual presentation.
Ø Professional acting/comedy/news anchor clippings or stories may not truly showcase your ability to present with an engaging, conversational style – please try to avoid these types of submissions.
Ø KEY TIP: We are looking for strong, upbeat, energetic, relatable, conversational speakers from the moment you begin your presentation! We also want to see that you hold this energy throughout!
Ø WE ONLY ACCEPT VHS, MINI-VHS, MINI DV’S AND DVD’S (please no webcams, web links or mini USB devices)
