Job Description

This position is for a Project Architect with an architectural background to design and manage retail dealerships across the US. This person will be placed within our engagement team co-located in our client’s environment. This position requires about 25% travel with the United States. Candidates may also be driving between our two locations in Michigan.

Candidates will need to plan, design and furnish interiors of retail automotive dealerships. Applicants must be able to formulate designs which are practical, aesthetic and maintaining the brand identity. Candidates should be self starters, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Architectural experience should be in retail environments or dealership design and construction. Candidates should be cognoscente of many construction types and techniques as this will be a portion of the design development for these projects.

Job Tasks

Travel to retail dealerships across the United States to survey existing conditions and/or prepare existing documentation.

Confer with client to determine factors affecting planning interior environments, such as budget, programmatic considerations and architectural brand identity.

Advise client on interior design factors affecting planning interior environments, such as budget, programmatic considerations and architectural brand identity.

Advise client on interior design factors, such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings, equipment and color coordination.

Formulate schematic plans, elevations and exterior renderings to be practical, esthetic and conducive to enriching brand strategy as well as balancing the budgets and brand values.

Render design ideas in form of renderings, sketches, and drawings.

Estimate material requirements and costs and present design to client for approval.

Work with local architects and contractors to help facilitate the development and construction of these retail dealerships. This is handled though conference calls, site visits and web communication.

Technical Skill Requirements

Drafting – Candidates must be able to draw and work fluently in AutoCAD. Currently we are using release 2005-2007.

Rendering – Candidates should be able to sketch and illustrate 3D design concepts to help convey the design intent to the design team and/or clients.

Communication & Tracking – Candidates must be able to work with the basic Microsoft Office suite. This includes excel spreadsheets, Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. Along with the basic e-mail and web communication tools needed to complete the tasks.

Education – Candidates must have a degree in Architecture from an accredited university.

Experience -- 3 or more years of experience in the planning and design of retail type spaces. Some experience in sales and marketing may be beneficial though not required.

Interpersonal Skills

Coordination – Coordinates design between regional management team and dealer principals along with their own architects and contractors.

Speaking – Candidates must be able to convey information effectively and convincingly.

Active Listening –Candidate must be able to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate.

Negotiation -- Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences while balancing the estimated budget, brand design and regional differences.

Management of Resources – Candidates should be able to budget time and the appropriate use of equipment, facilities and materials needed to do the required tasks.
