The Program Manager 1 is responsible for moderate to low risk and complexity programs that typically have lifetime values of $25M or less. Overall responsibility may be for single programs, multiple small programs or a portion of a much larger and complex program. The Program Manager 1 is the primary customer contact and the primary responsibility is execution of this program with secondary responsibilities to build closer business relationships with the customer and capturing follow on business. A Program Manager 1 typically does not have direct staff, but has technical functional leaders matrixed to them for execution of his programs. At the most basic level the Program Manager is responsible for program execution by negotiating and controlling the statement of work and aligning the company resources to achieve the schedule, resource, and cost objectives of the company and customer. In a sense the Program Manager is charged with delighting the customer while achieving internal business profitability and business targets on his program. As the primary business interface to the customer, the Program Manager works to ensure customer needs are met and ensures follow on business opportunities are captured. The Program Manager interfaces with the customer procurement, program management, and marketing organizations to: 1) Ensure we are aligned with the customer business objectives 2) Provide internal business projections and commitments for follow on 3) Pursue additional business opportunities to expand our penetration into our customer's business and expand our product offering. Experience - External: It is highly desirable to have the following traits: significant tact, diplomacy, negotiation and communication skills. Ability to influence others without direct control, learning agility, bias for action, strategic thinking and dealing with ambiguity. If the Program Manager is responsible for Military programs, the following coursework is beneficial - military program management, military procurement and logistics.
