Represents the Engineering organization at the manufacturing plant, facilitating new product transfers into the plant, running initial plant trials of new materials, assisting or guiding problem resolution, making (with plant assistance) successive experimental batches of materials and making onsite decisions regarding acceptability of materials and processes, as well as day-to-day operations of processes. The Engineer will initiate, monitor, assist, support and improve all aspects of Key Metrics: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Cost, and Continuous Improvement. The responsibilities of the Engineer include: Run plant trials to establish full-scale production procedures and capability on new formulas Arrange for purchase and installation of new process equipment and run trials to define operating parameters Analyze current production formulas to determine causes of rejects and work with Operations to implement corrective actions Assist plant in startup of new products Run plant trials on current production to establish process capability and to qualify alternative/new materials sources Function as a member of a cross functional teams established to achieve specific goals Incorporate changes/improvements in formulas, drawings, processes, or materials evaluated in trials Facilitate new product transfers into manufacturing Promote/support continuous improvement via technology and lean manufacturing techniques Promote and ensure adherence to all safety policies to achieve/exceed all safety goals and objectives Key Success Factors:Support all prototype activities consistent with programs Support Raw Material substitutions Learn plant processes Thorough knowledge in the design and application details of friction materials Self-starter and capable of working independently Effective communication skills Desire to work in a team environment Implement New Model Releases effectively. Attributes/Skills Required/Sought:Industrial manufacturing experience – preferably with a product requiring mixing, pressing and curing Experience in development and process of automotive brake friction materials Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma/SPC/DOE concepts Experience/Education Required/Sought:Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or similar field Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications 4+ years experience in Engineering Familiarity with/desire to work in a plant environment
