POSITION SUMMARY

 

Ideal candidate will participate in process qualification, and in developing, testing, and troubleshooting new Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), Ion Beam Etch (IBE) and Ion Beam Deposition (IBD) technologies and processes for specific applications. Activities will include: process qualification of newly installed process equipment, according to agreed upon specifications; investigation of new processes and hardware; writing/generation of test matrices; customer reports and application notes; operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IBE, IBD and PVD systems. Will be located at Veeco field office in Minnesota, and will spend most of time at specific customer sites in Minneapolis.  Will travel to global customer sites for system qualification, trouble-shooting, and presentations. Will spend about 20-40% of time traveling to customer sites outside of Minnesota, or to the Veeco New York applications lab.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.      Conduct process qualifications of PVD, IBE and IBD tools according to Veeco/customer specifications.

 

2.      Participate in developing new PVD, IBE and IBD processes and hardware.

 

3.      Analyze test results and write reports on process development and/or customer demonstrations.

 

4.      Operate and, occasionally, maintain and repair, PVD, IBD and IBE systems and various metrology equipments.

 

5.      Develop and demonstrate PVD, IBE and IBD processes to existing and potential customers.

 

 

EDUCATION/JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

·         Must have a minimum MS science or engineering degree or equivalent with 5 years related experience, or PhD in materials science or physics, with expertise in vacuum thin film technology. Experience in developing vacuum equipment pertaining to PVD, IBE or IBD would be a plus; experience in magnetic thin films and data storage related processes would be a strong plus.  Data analysis, technical report writing and customer presentations will be necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills and customer interaction technique a must. Must be a team player.
