Our firm has been retained by this (San Jose based) dynamic optical component startup organization to fill key roles in wafer fabrication. We have worked with the Founder and Chief Scientist in the past as he has pioneered a novel optical component technology, called a PLZT waveguide ~ based on 18 years of R&D at MIT and Fuji Xerox and 60 patents. Our client has prototypes including high speed optical switch subsystems tested by major system vendors. The PLZT photonics are substantially faster and low-consumption than alternatives, can enable integration, and can be manufactured in volume using semiconductor processes.
One of the large companies in Japan has chosen our client for a contract to build a 1xN switching system supported by a $10M national project on a 10Gbps active access system. This organization will achieve breakeven in 2008 as the PLZT device is almost in the engineering phase, thus the plan is to have a small team initially (one Manager and 2-3 Engineers, plus the Founder) and to grow slowly with plans of an IPO in 2012. We would prefer individuals with specific experience in waveguide technology, but will certainly consider top notch Process Engineers and Managers with a deep understanding of wafer fabrication in general.
