The overall job of the Principal, R&D is one of creation and innovation which leads to the development and introduction into production of new products/processes. The Staff Engineer, R&D may be responsible for: a) product/process development projects, product/process introduction, production trouble shooting, or individual measurement and analysis projects; b) performing measurements, creating engineering designs, developing plans and keeping laboratory notebooks on all projects; c) functioning as a member of cross functional teams by providing technical expertise for projects or subprojects; d) preparing time and cost estimates for projects; and e) providing strong technical contributions to product/process development projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Provides technical leadership to teams of engineers and technicians in the pursuit of new technology. •Provides consulting and troubleshooting on technical problems that arise in product process development. •Designs parts of prototype systems for new products/processes. •Performs engineering measurements and analysis. •Records work in laboratory notebook. •Contributes to engineering schedules and plans. •Instructs engineers and technical support staff on engineering test and build requirements. •Prepares cost and time estimates for engineering schedules. •Provides written reports as necessary. •Provides cost and activity accounting period reports as necessary. •Executes tactical implementation of strategic plans. •Assures compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and policies. •Participates in team decision making. •Develops team problem solving and communication skills •Demonstrates skill in the use and care of all tools and equipment. Requirements: Required: * BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. * Five+ (5+) years experience in engineering practice. * Preferred: MS degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or related engineering field. Preferred * Experience with interaction between energy and tissue * Experience with medical devices. * Experience with energy-based (RF, US, etc.) catheters or articulating devices * Experience interfacing with surgeons and medical professionals. * An understanding of user-based design issues.
