Principal Manufacturing Engineer

 

Purpose

 

Responsible for leading various Lean initiatives at the Plant level supporting the plant and company’s Lean strategy.  Organizes associates in value stream mapping and continuous improvement standards to eliminate waste in all office, factory and support functions.  Measures and reports progress on an on-going basis using Plant and Company KPI’s.

 

End Results and Deliverables

 

- Leads and guides various Lean initiatives within the Plant.  Works closely with the Lean Manager and Plant level management on Lean process projects using Kaizen events as the principle tool.   Uses the principles of the Toyota Production System as the basis of teaching.

 

- Supports and assists the development of the Lean Strategy to be implemented Plant-wide.

 

- Ensures Lean processes and team are established for assigned department and all associates are implementing the Lean principles, techniques, and methodologies. 

 

- Makes implementation and results a top priority and regularly updates the Plant's Lean implementation plan.  Empowers every employee in the Plant through positive reinforcement of Lean. 

 

Experience

 

A good understanding of the Toyota Production System lean principles.  A basic understanding of all the lean tools and techniques  including, Value Stream Mapping, Just-in-Time, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, Five S's, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Continuous Improvement Process, Kaizen, SPC, Six Sigma, and Communication Tools, statistical problem solving, and QS9000.  Knowledge and/or experience with Shainin Red X a plus.  Strong facilitation of encouragement, motivation, and inspirational skills. Good understanding of financial measurements and goals in the Lean/Flow throughput world.  Excellent communication skills to lead and support empowered employees in a team environment.  Undergraduate degree required with a preference for Engineers (Industrial or Mechanical).  3 to 5 years experience in a Lean manufacturing environment.
