MRI also has offices and laboratories in Palm Bay, Florida; Falls Church, Virginia; and Rockville and Frederick, Maryland. In addition, MRI operates and manages the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado for the U.S. Department of Energy.

MRI has a challenging position open for a Principal Chemist. The selected candidate will provide analytical chemistry support for client projects, conducting sample analysis and interpretation analytical data and interpreting spectra focusing on project management for trace chemical detection and analytical chemistry. The work supports private industry, National Security endeavors, Department of Homeland Security, other federal agencies, partnerships with other contract laboratories, and university partnerships relating to the research and development of all aspects of CWM detection and chemistry.

The selected candidate will;

Manage projects with classified clients involving the acquisition of information and the broad application of principles, theories and concepts in multiple technical areas related to CWM as well as the leadership and mentoring of junior project staff consisting of chemists, scientists, and technicians. Have a high level of interaction with clients, preparing and delivering presentations of project progress and results will be expected. Train and/or direct the work of other staff in the conduct of research projects to successfully deliver on time, on budget and quality products to our research sponsors.

Qualifications;

Ph.D. in Chemistry or related science and 10 years of experience, or M.S. in Chemistry or related science with minimum of 12 years experience or B.S. in Chemistry or related science with minimum of 18 years experience. Expert knowledge of Agilent instrumentation as well as demonstrated hands-on expertise with running and performing maintenance on GC, GC/MS, LC and LC/MS. Ability to analyze samples, troubleshoot, make repairs to laboratory instruments and analyze results. Experience in a forensic laboratory performing sample preparation, data interpretation/ analysis, tracking data with experience performing thorough documentation and following GLP regulations. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff at all levels in a team-based environment. Ability to work independently and assist team members. Detail oriented. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
