Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Bioinformatics

Philip Morris USA, a leading manufacturer and marketer of adult consumer products, in coordination with ClearPoint Resources Incorporated, seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. ClearPoint administers Philip Morris USA's Postgraduate Research Program. At this time, we are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the area of Bioinformatics to join our team at the Philip Morris USA facilities in Richmond, VA.

 

Position Objective and Responsibilities:

·        Excellent opportunity to work in a new state-of-the-art facility in Virginia

·        Document and communicate research results, conclusions and recommendations through lab notebooks, internal reports and presentation as well as external presentations and publications.

·        During an assignment at Philip Morris, incumbents are exposed to current issues in science and technology, have an opportunity to gain and share innovative ideas and techniques with resident technical staff while making significant contributions to selected research areas. 

·        Duties will be performed on site at Philip Morris USA in Richmond, Virginia under the administration of ClearPoint Resources Corporation.

·        Project Summary: Development of a pipeline for determining microbial identifications based on ribosomal RNA sequence information.  The candidate will perform high-throughput sequence analysis using standard bioinformatics tools in both a Unix and a windows environment. 

 

Degree Requirements:

Ph.D. (doctoral degree from an accredited university) in one of the following or similar fields:

Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or Microbiology, Biology or other appropriate biological discipline combined with considerable experience in Bioinformatics.

 

Other Qualifications:

In addition to having earned a Ph.D. in a preferred area of expertise, ideal candidates also possess:

Experience with Perl, Java, SQL, relational database design, and standard bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis. Experience with phylogenetic methodologies, and/or RNA-based microbial identification. Ablity to work in both Windows and Unix environments.A strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.Ability to either work for any employer in the United States or obtain a qualified citizenship status such as H1-B, TN or other for consideration.
