Luna Innovations is seeking a Polymer Research Scientist in our Charlottesville, Virginia location to support a number of programs involving organic coatings, adhesives, elastomers, and other materials development efforts. The position will be responsible for applications development and materials characterization with an emphasis on polymeric materials. The Polymer Research Scientist will investigate new resin chemistry to improve performance, suggest potential solutions, and provide input for new areas of research. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, possess excellent written and oral communications skills, function well in a dynamic cross-disciplinary environment, and be able to think independently to solve problems. The candidate must have recent experience conducting hands-on research in the areas of coatings, adhesives, sealants, and/or polymeric nano-composites. Specific experience developing materials into actual products is advantageous. Experience with environmental health and safety and waste handing is also a plus. A MS in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Coatings or related discipline and 0-3 years experience is required.
