The Plant Engineer provides guidance to production supervisors and operating personnel pertaining to equipment support, troubleshooting, and capital project installation. Manages plant engineering and directs activities to Supervisor of Maintenance and Maintenance personnel. Provides guidance to production supervisors and operating personnel pertaining to equipment support, troubleshooting and capital project installation.
Areas of Responsibilities:
Plant Engineering:
¨ Manages capital expansion and equipment upgrades (magnitude varies from $50M - $5MM).
¨ Develops, recommends and implements production equipment changes to improve operational quality of equipment as measured by product quality, productivity or overall cost reduction.
¨ Completes engineering projects within time and cost constraints while delivering high quality outcomes.
¨ Troubleshoots production and quality related problems, recommending solutions for both short- and long-term.
¨ Facility management.
¨ Manages all production and facility control systems (Process Chillers, Ovens Heaters, Compressed air, HVAC, electrical service, Gas service, PLC'S, Human machine interfaces, Drives, etc.).
¨ Manages Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering, Control engineering, Civil engineering projects and design work from both internal and external resources.
¨ Designs and engineers dies, tools and custom machinery for use in production.
¨ Manages strategic tooling vendors to support production needs.
Plant Maintenance:
¨ Maintains and preserves operating equipment, buildings, and plant equipment assets.
¨ Develops and adheres to preventative maintenance program to ensure continued equipment operation.
¨ Responsible for proper storage and appropriate inventory level of repair parts to maintain equipment and buildings in continuous operating condition as to produce and protect high quality finished products.
¨ Manage equipment and equipment supply vendors to minimize supply inventories.
¨ Develops and maintains adequate equipment record files including drawings, cost records, etc., for plant maintenance.
¨ Responsible for plant engineering and maintenance budget.
Safety:
¨ Responsible for safety of plant engineering and maintenance personnel as well as that of contract labor.
¨ Responsible for maintaining equipment in safe operating condition (about $25-30MM asset value). Addresses Operations' safety concerns thru corrective actions.
¨ Responsible for the safe operation of newly installed equipment and/or for upgraded equipment. Ensures proper guarding of equipment.
¨ Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations as it relates to safety, environment and loss prevention.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
· 5-8 years of Manufacturing Experience
· Masters Degree in Business Administration or equivalent (i.e Manufacturing Systems) preferred
· Plastics equipment and/or processing experience preferred
· Ability to Travel (Less then 5%)
