The Bettis Laboratory is operated by Bechtel Bettis, Inc. for the Department of Energy. More than 50 years ago, the Laboratory was established to develop a prototype nuclear power plant for submarine propulsion. The result was the design for the reactor plant which powered the USS NAUTILUS, the first nuclear-powered submarine. Since then, Bettis has continued to play a key role in the success of the Nuclear Navy through new reactor designs and support of the existing fleet. Most recently, Bettis completed the design of the reactor plant for the Seawolf class of attack submarines. Bettis maintains technical leadership through the high standards of its employees and a commitment to maintaining world-class testing facilities and computer systems.
Bettis Laboratory employees work at several locations. The main site, located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is primarily responsible for fleet support and research and development of new reactor systems and designs. Other Bettis sites are located in Charleston, South Carolina, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, and a few employees are assigned to shipyards throughout the United States.
Bettis Laboratory - Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) is seeking a Planning Engineer.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or a related technical discipline. The successful candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to interact directly with all levels of site management. The candidate should also have good organizational and delegation skills for handling many priority issues at the same time.
Responsibilities: The Naval Reactors Facility (NRF)Planning and Controls organization is responsible for the project management system for NRF work performance. The planning engineer would be responsible for understanding the mechanics of the scheduling, cost, and reporting systems, and use this information to identify negative trends and develop corrective actions for work efforts with negative variance to the scheduled baseline. Additional responsibilities include the integration of scheduling, performance and budget issues and developing plans for improving site work performance.
