Under the supervision of a Registered Physician, a Physician's Assistant I performs a number of medical procedures, including pre, intra and post-operative management of patients, assistance with surgical procedures, wound care, and others.  Writes admission, pre-operative and post-operative orders for patient care that must be countersigned by a physician.

In conjunction with attending MD's and house staff, provides care and management for neurosurgical inpatients at all levels of acuity. Pre & post-operative care and procedures, daily rounds, may assist in OR.

 

Masters of Science Degree, Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program.  Specialty certification required.

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

As applicable, graduate of accredited NP program and have passed boards.  RI license required or eligibility.

Three to five years experience as NP in acute care surgical setting (ideally neurosurgical) in academic medical center preferred.  Good interpersonal/communication skills preferred.
