WellPoint NextRx is the largest pharmacy benefit management (PBM) company that is wholly owned by a health plan, WellPoint, Inc., which is the largest health plan in the United States (approximately 35 million lives).  The Clinical Analytic Strategies team brings knowledge and expertise in analytical methods to support key decision-making.  Our team conducts analyses to examine the impact of pharmacy-based programs and policies on health care utilization, prescribing patterns and cost of care trends.  We also conduct analyses to better understand the value of pharmaceuticals, and the impact of clinical programs and services on pharmacy and medical use patterns.  The team develops analytic tools and solutions to assist with tracking and benchmarking pharmacy cost trends, and reporting on quality of care measures.  The team provides clinical analytic services and consultative analyses for key internal and external stakeholders.  Our analyses typically involve of the use of administrative pharmacy and/or medical claims data.   Services provided by the Clinical Analytic Strategies Team include: Pharmacy and medical data usage pattern and cost analysis Evaluation of program outcomes and policy Pharmacy and therapeutics committee support Consultative analyses for key internal and external stakeholders Pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research Clinical program strategy consultation Benefit design consultation and impact analyses Predictive modeling Software applications & analytical tools development Biostatistics
The Clinical Pharmacy Analyst will provide analytic expertise for various internal and external pharmacy benefit management (PBM) clients.  Position may be located either in West Hills, CA, Mason, OH or home office may be considered.

Key roles of the Clinical Pharmacy Analyst include: Pharmacy utilization and cost trending – to evaluate and monitor national trends in pharmacy cost spend and therapeutic class trend drivers.  Pharmacoeconomic, outcomes research, and budget impact models using integrated pharmacy, medical, and lab results data to support formulary management and outcomes measurement of pharmacy-based clinical programs. Clinical program strategy consultation – to facilitate program design and targeting, identify management opportunities and performance profiling (i.e., compliance programs, cost of care management, disease-based interventions). Evaluation of program outcomes and policy impact – to compare prevalence and health services utilization of different clinical approaches and health policy recommendations (i.e., step care versus stratified care, mono-therapy versus combination therapy at treatment initiation). Benefit design consultation and impact analyses – to provide benefit design consultations on retail, mail and specialty pharmacy and measure the impact of pharmacy benefit design (i.e., two-tier to three-tier) on prescription and health services utilization behavior. Request for Proposal (RFP) support – to assist the proposal team in clinical data driven support, (i.e., repricing of prospective client claims, clinical program savings projection, formulary disruption analyses, etc.). Create analytic programs to automate report from relational databases for internal and external clients using MS ACCESS and/or SAS. Report generation and publication of key findings of projects. The position requires three (3) to five (5) years of experience in clinical analytics, pharmacoeconomics, or health outcomes research.  Experience in a managed care/PBM environment is desirable, but not required.  A demonstrated ability to understand and effectively communicate (both verbally and written) analytic data to a varied audience is an absolute necessity.  Experience in analysis of large pharmacy and medical databases, with knowledge and skill in at least one of several statistical or analytic tools (e.g. MS Access, MS Excel, SAS, SPSS) is required.  Experience in biostatistics and statistical/analytic modeling preferred.  The ability to manage multiple projects and timelines is crucial. Candidates will be evaluated based upon required credentials, knowledge and experience with the goal of complementing existing team competencies. Advanced clinical degree required, preferably a RPh or Pharm.D..  An addition of a Ph.D., M.S., or M.P.H. a plus. An emphasis in analytics, pharmacoeconomics, health outcomes research, or epidemiology is highly desirable, but not required.
