Job Description:
Responsibilities:
A.Responsibles and accountables for own professional practice.
B.Clinical Support (under direction of Assistant Director, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiologist / Infection Control Officer).
* Implements Infection Control policies and guidelines by making rounds on nursing units, FPA, and in support areas. Reinforces guidelines and policies and provides written documentation as necessary.
* Recommends control measures to contain an outbreak.
* Conducts contact investigations of communicable diseases.
* Identifies issues of epidemiological significance.
* Conducts surveillance of nosocomial infections
* Conducts surveillance of resistant and epidemiologically significant organisms and recommends control measures.
* Acts as a role model and resource to hospital personnel regarding Infection Control practice and education.
* Assesses compliance with policies and guidelines by conducting quality monitoring.
* Provides consultation on the use of products and devices and on the use of antiseptics and disinfectants.
* Provides coverage as needed for BBFE Program
* Serves as educator in OSHA, JCAHO, New York State-required and unit-based education and collaborates with education specialists regarding orientation of staff and ongoing staff development.
C.Administration
* Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Infection Control, the Hospital Epidemiologist/Infection Control Officer and with the Infection Control Committee in establishing Infection Control program goals and objectives.
* Participates in the implementation of the Infection Control program according to current national standards and guidelines.
* Collaborates with departments in the formulation of infection control policies and procedures.
* Participates in the planning and evaluation of new programs, activities, special projects and program priorities.
* Develops and revises Infection Control quality monitoring tools based on current Infection Control and Nursing Clinical Guidelines.
* Participates in monthly meetings of Infection Control Committee and presents the following:Policies and guidelines, Surveillance activity reports with implications, Investigations to control outbreaks, Other pertinent issues.
* Participates as a member of the Infection Control Committee and Care Center Quality Committees.
* Coordinates and/or participates in meetings with other disciplines to problem solve, plan programs or establish standards of practice.
D. Communication:
* Accurately reports all significant events and problems to the Assistant Director, Infection Control, and the Hospital Epidemiologist / Infection Control Officer.
* Maintains ongoing communication with Department of Nursing Clinical Managers and supervisory personnel in other departments.
* Arbitrates interdepartmental infection control issues as indicated.
* Communicates effectively with patients, nursing, physician staff, and outside agencies.
* Prepare the following written documents in a complete and timely manner:
1. Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Report
2. Investigations of communicable diseases
3. Significant epidemiological occurrences and special reports and studies as indicted
4. Minutes of Infection Control Committee.
5. Memorandums
6. Infection Control guidelines
7. FPA reviews
Job Qualifications:
Qualifications:
A.License: New York State license with current registration required for all registered nurses.
B. Education:Baccalaureate degree in health related science required. Master's preferred in nursing or allied health field.
C. Experience:At least two years of progressive clinical nursing or infection control experience is required.
D. Certification: Active Certification endorsed by the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) is preferred and encouraged.
