Non Profit Capital Management (NPCM) is a growing start-up in its 5th year that provides outsourced bookkeeping, grant writing, strategic planning and consulting services to non-profit organizations. Based in Woburn, MA, NPCM currently works with non-profit organizations across much of eastern and central Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and the Cape and Islands.
Position Description:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for inputting data from time sheets submitted by our customers to Peachtree Accounting and other payroll software for the bi-weekly payrolls. Also responsible for balancing payroll runs, producing federal, state and local tax payments, posting the payroll to the general ledger, answering employee questions and troubleshooting issues. This position will work closing with NPCM’s bookkeeping team in assisting our accounting customers.
Position is part-time: Schedule can be 9am – 3pm, Tuesday – Thursday; or 10am – 2pm, Monday - Thursday
A detailed description of job responsibilities includes:
Compiles payroll data, enters data to Peachtree Accounting, and reconciles errors to maintain payroll records. Posts payroll to General Ledger accurately. Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll. Records changes affecting net wages, such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records. Records data concerning transfer of employees between departments. Prorates expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records. Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions. Prepare and issue paychecks. Establish and maintain payroll records and reports. Prepare federal and state income/ payroll tax returns. Review tax information supplied by client. Recognize, anticipate, and resolve tax issues for both federal and state taxes. Accountable and responsible for quality service for clients. Contacts and assists clients in process of obtaining information for payroll production and tax related issues; verifies totals, responds to/resolves client questions and problems and delivers quality customer service. Keeps abreast of the payroll processing system and changes in wage and tax laws, and corresponds with federal, state, and local tax agencies on behalf of our clients when requested.Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with 3 years of experience in the field in a related area; Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures used to process payroll; Ability to follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; Detail oriented; Comfortable working over the phone; Comfortable working with Excel and Word Documents; Knowledge of Peachtree Accounting preferred
