Position Description

The Payloads Safety and Airworthiness Engineer is responsible for: Providing oversight, guidance and support to engineering regarding safety and certification processes and procedures; Ensuring all activities required to certify Boeing commercial airplanes are accomplished. Investigating, leading and/or supporting potential safety issues; Researching and documenting certification requirements and compliance issues to obtain regulatory approval; Developing and providing timely metrics and program visibility of engineering activities, including the open safety issues and open action items. Uses LEAN principles to focus on achieving world-class levels of customer satisfaction and productivity through the systematic prevention and elimination of waste. This is a high visibility position that requires refined communication skills. Requires working closely with Boeing Engineers, Supplier Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs), Boeing Airworthiness Representatives (ARs), the Boeing Delegated Compliance Organization, the FAA and foreign regulatory offices as well as all levels of management. Specific assignments may include such items as:Developing and gaining approvals of certification basis and issue papers; AR and Design Approval Engineer administration and oversight; Leading a plan for documentation of methods of compliance; Providing status and coordination with the FAA on safety related matters; Group focal for coordinating team meetings and timely completion of group commitments.

Education and/or Experience

Level 3 - Typically 5 to 8 years' experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 3 to 6 years' experience or a PhD degree with 0 to 3 years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 4 - Typically 9 to 13 years' experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 7 to 11 years' experience or a PhD degree with 4 to 8 years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Other Job related information

Position requires regular travel between Everett and Renton, WA. ABET accredited degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering preferred. Candidates must be proactive self-starters with a working knowledge of certification processes and requirements, cabin configurations, interior interfaces, design development and engineering documentation. Successful candidates will have a working together approach, a find a way attitude and previously demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent project management, time management, scheduling, delegating, planning, and integration skills are required. Experience in developing, communicating and leading recovery plans is desirable. Ability to multi task in a demanding work environment is required. Must be able to adapt quickly and be comfortable operating in fluid situations. Able to think out-of-the-box, open to new ideas and concepts. Experience with Sharepoint and DCCS a plus.
