DEPARTMENT: Security

STARTING SALARY: $10.37/hour

DESCRIPTION: Full Time ; 2080 hours annually
Swing Shift; Sunday and Monday Off (4 pm – midnight)

Under indirect supervision, maintains a safe and secure campus environment for all members of the College community, guests and visitors. Responds quickly and effectively to problems and emergencies.

GRADE: 7

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

- Patrols College buildings and grounds by vehicle and on foot to prevent theft, trespass, vandalism or violations of Federal, State or College regulations; investigates and prepares written reports on violations, damage or other irregularities occurring in area of responsibility.

- Monitors entry to administrative, academic or residence buildings. Takes action in case of fire, theft and illegal entry. Reports unusual or suspicious activities and inappropriate use of College facilities or property.

- Maintains working knowledge of related Federal, State and College regulations; all alarms and sprinkler systems (including troubleshooting procedures); and location and identification of College property.

- Performs periodic safety checks of designated interior and/or exterior areas to include security lights; monitors for hazards such as toxic spills, water leaks, heating/hot water equipment problems, and malfunctions of alarm systems; performs emergency repairs as appropriate until maintenance personnel can be contacted.

- Provides routine traffic control, escort services, and information to the College community and the general public.

- Renders first aid in event of minor injuries; in the event of more serious injury makes sound decisions regarding transport to Boettcher Health Center, local hospital ER, or calling 911.

- Investigates accidents related to students on or off (at college-sponsored events) campus and accidents involving non-students on campus.

- Participates in quarterly or semi-annual fire safety inspections and OSHA-type life safety inspections; responsible for the inspection of all life support equipment.

- Interacts, provides and exchanges information in a positive and courteous demeanor with students, faculty, staff, members of the community, and guests.

- Responds to and assists with traffic accidents on or near campus until the arrival of proper authorities.

- Acts as liaison with local law enforcement agencies; provides assistance in situations involving the College.

- Protects the College from unfavorable publicity as appropriate.

- Must support and contribute to the goal of achieving greater diversity at Colorado College and work effectively with the many constituencies on campus.

- Performs other related duties as assigned or requsted.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

- High school graduate plus specialized training or equivalent work experience.

- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and insurable. First Aid and CPR certification.

- Two years related experience. Minimum of 21 years of age.

- Must be in good physical condition to accommodate frequent climbing of stairs; occasional climbing of ladders; ability to exert force to include forcefully restraining uncooperative or incapacitated individuals; running in response to emergencies; good vision and hearing essential. May exert in excess of 100 pounds of force in restraining or transporting individuals. Constant walking in all weather conditions.

- Must be in physical condition to operate a bicycle with the ability to obtain certification from the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA). Certification requires attending three 8 hour classes to review textbook information, complete a written test and test on physical ability to ride a bike. Upon receipt of the certification, an increase of $.50/hour to wages will apply. Must pass a physical examination that will be provided by the college. A final employment offer is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and background check.

SKILLS:

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical, human relations and listening skills; good judgment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; able to relate to and gain the confidence and cooperation of the members of the greater College community. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy, and act calmly and rationally in an emergency.

- Ability to perform minor maintenance. Ability to operate security vehicle and carts, jumper cables, automobile door unlocking tool, automobile wheel boot, handcuffs, mace, keys, radio, maintenance tools, etc.
