General Description:

The Patient Services Associate coordinates activities and provides clerical support for a multi-faceted clinical office to ensure a smoothly functioning office and good patient relations. Interacts with patients, patients’ families, referring physicians and third party carriers with regard to patient-related issues. The Patient Services Associate is responsible for registration of patient demographic and insurance information, charge input, payment posting, and mailing insurance claims to payors. Work Experience Requirements:

Registers patient demographic information into the computerized patient billing and registration system (IDX). Verifies the information for accuracy. Answers patient calls, takes and relays messages; responds to patient and staff inquiries, and communicates with referring physician offices. Responsible for correcting and updating patient registration errors that are reported by the OSUP Training and QI department. Responsible for mailing all secondary insurance claims as well as attaching the primary Explanation of Benefits (EOB). Post patient and insurance payments based on contractual adjustments, which needs to balance to a bank deposit ticket. Obtains pre-certifications as required by patients’ health care insurers or managed care providers. May schedule or assist in scheduling clinical appointments and/or meetings. Opens and routes incoming mail; distributes correspondence, reports, and office supplies; mails out form letters. Responds to faxes and distributes incoming mail to all physicians. Responsible for collecting co-payments from patients for services rendered.

Job Qualifications:

Requires a High School diploma or Associates degree in a related area; at least one year of data entry and customer service experience or training, preferably in a health care environment. Must have experience with a computerized billing system. IDX experience is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Knowledge of ICD-9 & CPT-4 coding is preferred. Evidence of organizational and problem solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrative effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally. Demonstrates an understanding of job responsibilities and uses appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively complete work. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Position serves as a facilitator in change management within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Demonstrates courtesy to others and promotes mutual respect
