General Description:
This position carefully and patiently interviews patients and/or family members via phone to obtain the most up to date information. Quality data collection includes accurate information including demographic, physician, insurance, employment and other miscellaneous information. This position coordinates process from pre-registration to the patient’s arrival in the clinic focusing on accurate data collection, quality service, and customer satisfaction. This collection process includes the interpretation of requirements by Medicare and multiple other payers. You must be able to interpret patient answers to insure accurate information on Medicare secondary questionnaires to insure compliance with billing practices. Signatures must be obtained on a variety of forms including patient consent, ABNs, and etc. Must be able to use a variety of software packages which include SMS, ABN, eligibility, and etc. This position must learn to be fluent in the registration process to insure expeditious and accurate information.
Work Experience Requirements:
· Answers patient calls, takes and relays messages; responds to patient and staff inquiries, and communicates with referring physician offices.
· Obtains pre-certifications as required by patients’ health care insurers or managed care providers.
· Pre-registers/updates patient demographics into IDX system.
· May schedule or assist in scheduling clinical appointments and/or meetings.
· Scheduling appointments via computerized appointment scheduling system, patient reception, coordination of medical records and associated clinical and administrative documents.
· Completes the disability paperwork for all patients, which is required by the patient’s employers.
· Responsible for collecting co-payments from patients for services rendered.
· Performs other related duties as required. This position may be assigned to special projects or accountabilities when other priorities are identified.
Job Qualifications:
Requires a High School diploma or GED; three or more years of customer service, insurance billing, and/or collection experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Knowledge of ICD-9 & CPT-4 coding is preferred. Evidence of organizational and problem solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrative effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally. Demonstrates an understanding of job responsibilities and uses appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively complete work. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Position serves as a facilitator in change management within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Demonstrates courtesy to others and promotes mutual respect.
