Writing Assistance is a nationwide staffing agency for technical writers and instructional designers. We have a new contract-to-hire position open in Lake Tahoe, NV. Client will pay relocation costs for the right candidate.
Lake Tahoe client is looking for an Instructional Designer/ Technical Writer to create all product related education materials including User Manuals, Help Systems, example models, website support pages, computer-based training (CBT), web-based training (WBT) and instructor-led training (ILT). The templates and structure of the manuals are already complete. Candidate will be updating extensively for new product releases, which will require significant revisions.
Candidates should be well-versed in (most or all of) linear, integer, quadratic, conic, convex, nonlinear, and non-smooth optimization, simulation methods, and robust, stochastic, dynamic, and simulation optimization. Their products include spreadsheet optimization products and interactive risk analysis simulation software for Excel, and their optimization and simulation platform, used by programmers working in C/C#/C++, VB/VB.Net, Java and MATLAB.
This position will involve ongoing contact, in person and by phone and email, with the client's academic and commercial customers, to better understand users’ needs, and communicate and champion those needs in our ongoing product development efforts.
A limited amount of travel to INFORMS and other professional society conferences, and academic and commercial customer sites will be required.
Teaching/executive training experience and empathy with users is required; experience teaching in executive education is a plus. However, this position will primarily involve creation of educational materials, and testing them with users, rather than ongoing presentation of seminars and courses. They are further seeking the ability to explain to users, from a unified perspective, the full range of methods for optimal decision-making.
Candidates must have excellent skills in building models with MS Excel and other tools such as algebraic modeling languages, experience writing code to implement models an at least one language such as C/C#/C++, VB/VB.Net, Java or MATLAB. Strong skills with manuscript-level word processing and web page creation using HTML or CSS is required; experience with tools for help system creation (i.e. RoboHelp), screen motion capture and video tutorial creating (i.e. Camtasia Studio) is a plus.
