The Operator Technician is responsible for the effective operation, minor repair and changeovers of production equipment. Works with others to achieve factory business objectives of safety, productivity, customer service, quality, cost and environmental protection. The primary accountabilities of the role include daily production, quality and sanitization procedures, safety compliance, equipment maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team. The Operator Technician works within a structure that requires considerable interaction with others in the same production unit as well as other production units and support functions.
Specific responsibilities include:
Operates, monitors, and performs changeovers and minor maintenance of automated equipment (making, finishing, injection molding) through computer terminals, control panels and/or by manual means in the manufacturing of Colgate-Palmolive products.Confirm in-house availability of raw and packing materials for current and next runs. Seek and understand schedule and demand plans. Coordinate with upstream and downstream processes by working with others in planning, warehouse, receiving and vendor representatives to ensure availability of materials. Unloads materials and supplies from delivery vehicles and delivers those materials and supplies to storage, processing and finishing areas as needed.Performs quality sampling and statistical process control activities both manually and through computer keyboard throughout the manufacturing process.Troubleshoots, performs minor repairs and other maintenance on production equipment, supported by maintenance personnel as needed.Prepares and loads finished product for shipping using SAP and working with Colgate local warehouse employees and Colgate distribution network employees.Performs Housekeeping activities as per established protocol and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments per requirement. Responsible for house-keeping of team work areaUndertakes daily reporting and updates of information systems (SAP, Shop Floor Reporting, Cycle Counts)Accurately and fully completes all regulatory and compliance related documentation and procedures; highlights variancesStays abreast of team’s production performance via visual, written and verbal communications Participates in regular review of team production performance and uses information to drive continuous improvementSeek and apply Continuous Improvement tools and techniques to achieve team goals e.g. Quality Systems, Total Productive Maintenance, Problem Solving toolsUnderstands and adheres to Environmental, Occupational, Health and Safety requirements Understand and adheres to all Quality, Good Manufacturing Practices and Micro Cleaning & Sanitization Guidelines standards and guidelinesUnderstand the needs of both internal and external customers. Internal customers include Quality, Planning, Maintenance, and Finance. External customers are other Colgate plants, customer service and, for example, Target, WalMart etc.Shares knowledge and develops skills of others in the work team. High school diploma or equivalent Ability to work nights, weekends, and rotating shifts Ability to work 12 hour shifts Minimum of two years work experience in a manufacturing, production or operation environment Ability to adhere to all safety standards and wear and utilize all personal protective equipment Ability to perform regular housekeeping and maintain general cleanliness in work area Ability to move bags of raw materials weighing up to 50 lbsPreferred Qualifications:
Vocational or Technical Degree At least one year of experience with any or all of the following: FDA regulated environment, minimum safe behaviors, utilizing safety checklists, OSHA standards performing equipment changeovers (make-ready) performing quality checks or audits in manufacturing processes using Continuous Improvement Tools training others being responsible for knowing and achieving production goals conducting team or workgroup meetings preparing production or other reports applying problem solving tools or techniques using the production, planning or other module in SAPcollaborating with co-workers on decision-making exercisesusing Microsoft Office
