Essential Functions of Position
Include teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean, and in cooperation with the department chair; maintaining standards of professional conduct; participating in course and curriculum design; development and delivery of on-line courses; student advisement; participating in program review, student learning outcome development & assessment; serving on staff/college/district committees and contributing through appropriate committee assignments; and otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required. Duties may include assignments in a variety of instructional settings, modalities (including on-line) and times, including evening, weekends, and may be on the Reedley College campus and/or off-site community campus locations.
Organizing and teaching classes in the business department which may include, but is not limited to, computer basics, general office procedures and computer office applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and data base management, medical office administrative procedures such as coding, billing, and medical filing. Fulfill the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required including supervising a Windows-based computer laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications
Include any Bachelor's degree with two years of office experience, or any Associate degree with six years of experience or a valid California Community College credential or the equivalent education and/or experience and demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
Include professional competency as evidenced by successful work experience and teaching experience in business courses, including computer basics, general office procedures, computer office applications, as well as medical office administrative procedures including coding, billing, scheduling, and medical filing; ability to use current educational technology methods and tools; extent of experience working with students of various ages and cultural, economic and educational backgrounds; extent of knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes; extent of commitment to professional growth; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; strong computer skills; and memberships in professional organizations.
Although not required a Master's degree in business administration or business education or Bachelor's degree in any of the above and Master's degree in vocational education or the equivalent is preferred along with successful work experience and college teaching experience in business courses, including business communications, business & finite math for business, statistics for business, business management, careers in business, human resource management, introduction to business and marketing.
Conditions of Employment
177 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits
Starting Salary: $51,133 - $76,983 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,913 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance as well as disability coverage for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher's Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. Interviewees may be asked to conduct a short teaching demonstration.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions and the teaching demonstration (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President or Vice Chancellor and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
