OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY ENGINEER Class Code 7249 $33,384.00 to $45,739.20 position is available at MAINE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, Bureau of Labor Standards, Equal Employment Opportunity, Minority/Female/Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Value of State paid health and dental insurance is $265.82 bi-weekly. Value of State's share Employee's Retirement equals 18.54% of pay. DESCRIPTION: This is professional services work involving the inspection of machinery, equipment, construction projects, public and private industry facilities, and working conditions. Responsibilities include interpreting the laws, rules, regulations, and policies of the Bureau of Labor Standards and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration. Positions in this classification are differentiated from Safety Compliance Officers because the work requires consultation and advising employers in developing safety compliance programs. Work is performed under limited supervision. Typical duties for consultation include conducting consultation site visits for public and private sector facilities. This position also requires the development and presentation of safety and health training programs. In addition, this position requires strong interpersonal and computer skills, as well as the ability to interpret safety and health laws and standards. Minimum qualifications include six (6) years of education and/or experience in occupational safety and health or directly related area. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
