  Nursing Supervisor (Chief Nurse on Call) - North Chicago, IL    Job Details   Company: Veterans Affairs     Job ID: 1270323     Location: Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine, WI    Job Description   Full-Time; 11:45 pm to 7:45 am including weekends with rotation to other shifts as needed. Permanent. As a key member of the leadership team, the Chief Nurse on Call is responsible for the supervision of nursing staff on the night shift. This individual must demonstrate professional leadership in the delivery of patient care across the organization. The incumbent uses critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and coordinate nursing care. He/She effectively facilitates, monitors, and evaluates the quality of nursing care delivered by nursing staff. Areas of supervision include, but are not limited to the following: Emergency Department, Critical Care, Medical/Surgical, Long Term Care, and Inpatient Mental Health. The Chief Nurse on Call is directly responsible to the Deputy Associate Director, Patient/Nursing Services. Major responsibilities include the following: (1) communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with the internal and external customers; (2) maintain confidentiality of patient/employee information electronically, verbally and written; (3) work and function within a safe manner including infection control and operation of equipment; (4) demonstrate a working knowledge of the changes associated with aging and the principles of growth and development relevant to the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population; and (5) utilize nursing research and literature in daily practice. U. S. Citizenship; full, current, active and unrestricted registered nurse license; BSN required; MSN from NLN accredited school preferred; A minimum of five (5) years successful clinical nursing practice and two (2) years of supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership and management. BLS/PALS/ACLS certifications required. Must be proficient in spoken and written English and computer skills. Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Must meet physical standards for the position. Applicants must pass a pre-employment medical examination which includes the possibility of a drug screen You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position. Both prior to and after appointment, all members are subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
