Nurse Manager, Home Care Services
Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center, Seattle, WA
Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center serves as the pediatric referral center for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. Celebrating 100 years since its founding in 1907, Children’s provides excellent inpatient, outpatient specialty, diagnostic, emergency, and outreach services and conducts cutting-edge pediatric research. Children’s serves as an educational resource for parents and healthcare professionals alike and is consistently ranked among the top children’s hospitals nationally by US News and World Report and Child magazine. The main hospital campus occupies a 24-acre site in Seattle’s Laurelhurst neighborhood. With the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, Children’s specializes in meeting the unique physical, emotional and developmental needs of children from infancy through young adulthood. State-of-the art inpatient facilities support a high-tech, high touch approach to patient care, with 250 inpatient beds. Current initiatives include ANCC Magnet application and Toyota Lean Methodology. Children’s also provides services at numerous clinics, community hospitals, and specialty centers in the region.
Home Care Services is located 13 miles from the main hospital, providing home infusion therapies, home enteral therapies, chemotherapy, short term antibiotics, home respiratory equipment, and durable medical equipment. Care is provided to pediatric patients aged 0-22 years, with conditions such as cancer, CF, and chronic medical conditions (65% of patients). Clinical offices, pharmacy, patient treatment rooms, warehouse, and biomed shop are all located on the same site. Services are provided 24 hours/7 days/365 days per year, primarily Monday-Friday operations, with smaller staff on weekends. RNs rotate weekends and after hours on call. ½ RN time spent in hospital doing pre discharge education for infusion and enteral therapies, ¼ RN time spent providing infusions at Bothell location and other Children’s off site clinics, ¼ RN time spent in home visits for TPN, Transplant, other high risk patients. Home Care Services has 1,300 total patients; 300 infusion, 40 direct infusion patients, with a total of 60 personnel.
Reporting to the Director of Home Care Services, the Nurse Manager serves as a member of the management team for the department and as leader of the nursing team. The Manager needs to be unwavering in commitment to quality and safety; able to act as problem solver and collaborator, partnering with all disciplines and teams. The nursing team structure includes director, nurse manager, nurse educator, 2 infusion RN clinical coordinators, and 8 field RNs teaching infusion administration and providing patient care. Department goals are aligned with those of the main hospital – services are growing; working on standardizing practices. The department is supportive and team focused; built on teamwork, with an open environment committed to listening and sharing of ideas. The team is seasoned, with high expectations of performance and quality, and strong commitment to families and delivering safe care.
The ideal candidate for this leadership position will have nursing experience in pediatrics and infusion home care. Management experience is required. Current knowledge of home care is necessary. Strong interpersonal skills are needed, along with good teamwork. A BSN is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
