Due to our commitment to shared governance and shared decision-making, the Nurse Anesthetist assembles necessary supplies and equipment, and administers intravenous, spinal, and other anesthetics prior to surgical or other medical procedures. They monitor patient's reactions and vital signs during and after anesthesia and take remedial action when warranted. They submit postoperative reports on patient's condition, and maintain records of anesthetics administered.Imagine yourself… Insuring that relevant tests have been completed and a thorough assessment of the patient has been performed. Reviewing the patient’s condition immediately prior to the induction of an anesthesia. Checking the readiness, availability, cleanliness, sterility when required and working conditions of all the equipment used in the administration of anesthetic agents prior to administering anesthesia. Remaining with the patient until it is safe to transfer responsibility for care to other qualified individuals. Advising personnel responsible for post-anesthetic care of specific problems presented by the patient’s condition. Administering post-operative epidural pain relief and other post-operative analgesia in collaboration with the surgeon and making post-anesthetic visits regarding the presence or absence of anesthesia related complications. Assisting nursing units with difficult IV insertions when requested, when available and when attempts by other professionals have been unsuccessful. General Qualifications Current certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) granted by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (CCNA). Current licensure as a Registered Nurse granted by the State of Wisconsin. Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) granted by the State of Wisconsin. Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required. Minimum two years of anesthesia experience. Must be able to fulfill the time requirements, which include around the clock coverage and weekends, covering call needs of the Anesthesia department as needed. Initiates and encourages team spirit in providing breaks to colleagues. Maintains overview of activity in Operating Room and other areas where anesthesia services are being required.
