JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (Ft. Bliss) in El Paso, TX. Network Engineer will work in a busy military medical center as a network engineer, and will provide network services that support hospital information technology requirements. Network Engineer will test, install, configure, and maintain networks including hardware (servers, hubs, bridges, switches, and routers) and software that permit the sharing and transmission of information. Plans, designs and integrates network systems consistent with existing or planned network infrastructures and future automation needs.

Experience with Cisco networking hardware and software is required.

Network Engineer should be familiar with network intrusion detection and monitoring tools. Experience with wireless networks is advantageous; Network Engineer should dictate which wireless network vendors they are familiar with (preference for Cisco and/or AirFortress wireless network security products). Experience as a server administrator with knowledge of file server, DHCP and print server administration and file access control is highly desirable. Network Engineer will provide technical assistance, and attend meetings and briefings related to project assignments. Network Engineer will assist with the organization’s firewall posture by coding and implementing firewall configuration and access control list. Maintains access control records in which only authorized personnel can gain access to the systems. Ensures procedures are established so network nodes fully support the security integrity of the network and comply with applicable directives. Performs site surveys to explore user information systems requirements and possible courses of action to satisfy user needs. Verifies or determines extent of systems modification or design required to meet user needs. Network Engineer discusses IT projects with assigned IT specialists, engineers, installation officials, and end users. Resolves conflicts and technical problems and provides technical advice. Work on special projects as assigned to support automation requirements.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 7 years of general experience. Six (6) years of general experience is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. With a Master's degree, 5 years of general experience is required. With a PhD, 3 year of general experience is required. Demonstration of proficiency as well as certifications will be required during interview process. Must be capable of obtaining Level II Network and Security+ certification and/or other certifications IAW AR 25-2 or other applicable IA publications, Army Regulations and policies.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Network Services: Comprehensive knowledge of, and skill in applying network systems design, development, testing, installation, operations, management, and maintenance concepts and methods; and the organization's network architecture, topology, and protocols to provide network services that support business requirements; and plan, design, and integrate network systems consistent with existing or planned network infrastructures.

Comprehensive knowledge of IT concepts, principles, methods, and practices; to plan and carry out assignments; provide advice and guidance on a wide range and variety of IT issues; and interpret IT policies, standards, and guidelines.

Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in analytical methods and practices to conduct analyses of problems and/or issues affecting the network and recommend approaches and procedures in resolution of multifaceted IT problems or in delivering IT services.

Superior oral and written communication techniques are needed to prepare and present reports and recommendations; and represent the organization in interactions with other organizations.

DESIRED SKILLS: Experience with enterprise backup systems, SANS and NAS, VMWare and virtual storage solutions is highly desirable. Experience with NettApp storage, virtual storage and backup installation and maintenance is highly desirable. Experience with COOP solutions is also advantageous. Prior government or military networking experience desirable. Knowledge of Army policies and regulations is desirable.
