Description: JOB PURPOSE Provisions, configures, implements and maintains the Cox Communications Northern Virginia SONET, Data, and DWDM networks. Works in concert with the Commercial Business Services (CBS) Unit and the Network Architecture Engineering team to assure timely and accurate deployment of customer circuits. Ensures that the Cox Communications network is maintained and operated to perform in accordance with the service level expectations of all internal and external customers. Ensures network performance is in accordance with established SLAs.

JOB CONTENT / KEY RESULT AREAS

Responsible for network OAM&P for Core Networks (Data, SONET & DWDM)

Partners with Architecture Engineering group to ensure future network deployments conform to established best practices

Partners with Architecture Engineering group to ensure network resources are available for timely CBS activations

Partners with Network Operations Center and System Operations Center to ensure timely problem resolution

Support Network Architecture Technicians in the installation, test, and turn-up of network elements and customer premise equipment.

Support Network Architecture Technicians as a point of escalation for resolution of network issues and trouble tickets

Responsible for provisioning activities related to the design, installation, and maintenance of circuits and network elements for the Network Architecture group utilizing the Granite inventory management system.

Responsible for the order management and implementation of all telecommunication transport services related to all data and transport equipment and circuits.

Responsible for accurate network monitoring

Performs other duties as required Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL

Education: CS/EE degree or equivalent work experience.


Experience:

Five (5) years of directly related work experience

Five (5) years experience in network design and troubleshooting technical issues


Other:

Advanced knowledge of Routing and Switching

Advanced TCP/IP experience

Advanced knowledge of DWDM technologies

Advanced knowledge of SONET networking




DESIRED

Education: CCNP / CCDP


Experience:

Ten (10) years of directly related work experience


Other:

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities -

Advanced knowledge of network operating systems and networking protocols

Advanced knowledge of SONET, TDM, and DWDM systems and networks

Advanced knowledge with particular emphasis on MAN/WAN, TCP/IP, and open access technologies (Peering, IP addressing, CIDR, DNS, Radius, TACACS, etc)

Must be self motivated and enjoy a challenge in designing complex networking systems

Advanced knowledge of IP services (IP, Multicast, QoS, OSPF, BGP, MPLS)

Advanced knowledge of OSI model and services (OSI Layers, IEEE standards)

Advanced understanding of VOIP technology and related standards

Comprehensive understanding of circuit bandwidth relationships and telecommunications transmission protocols.

Expert use and understanding of protocol analyzers, data monitors, OSAs, and TDM and OC-n test equipment

Working knowledge of network management systems

Strong ability to provide an in-depth analysis of an escalated problem

Ability to function in a highly fluid environment with aggressive deadlines

Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate to cross functional teams

Must enjoy creative problem solving.

Must possess good organizational and prioritization skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
