Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

Ensure Harrah's Information Technology applications, systems and networks are properly designed, equipped and configured to yield maximum performance.     Directly responsible for managing system capacity planning on complex systems to ensure they are adequately equipped and configured to meet the company's current and projected needs. Participate with development in designing applications to meet Information Technology standards, providing innovative solutions to technical problems.

Directly responsible for implementing and managing backup strategies for Harrah's critical data, taking into account cost, retention, and capabilities to restore the data that is saved. Directly responsible for recognizing and identifying potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion. Directly responsible for implementing and enforcing corporate security policies. Analyzes and evaluates complex Information Technology technical strategies and systems for compatibility with existing systems, and compliance to Harrah’s and known industry standards, and consistency with Harrah's long term business needs, strategies and policies.

Stay abreast of new technologies through internal and external media and courses, quickly learning and applying these technologies as needed to solve Harrah's business problems. Work closely with other IT groups to coordinate current and future plans and activities, including the coordination and technical assistance to facilitate specific development projects that involve the various system environments. Plan, design, develop, implement and maintain system engineering processes, methods and tools. Directly responsible for negotiating new system purchases and configurations with hardware and software vendors.


Work to assure the lowest total cost of ownership and greatest value for Harrah's while providing the requested functionality to meet user and system requirements. Directly responsible for in-depth analysis and problem solving of complex issues outside of daily system and database administration. Directly responsible for establishing guidelines for the development of database applications, which include coding standards, database design standards, and benchmark criteria. Directly responsible for monitoring vendors' products, performance, viability and pricing strategies. Provide senior technical leadership to the department and the company, including being familiar with the future direction of technology and platforms, how that direction will impact the company, and how future and current systems can be leveraged for the benefit of the company. Directly responsible for the department defining procedures to implement corporate security policies, backup critical data, and provide network security from unauthorized Internet, dial-up and in house access. Design, implement and support an Enterprise wide e-mail solution, including internet connectivity.

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of technology and applies advanced skill and knowledge in the delivery of hardware and software solutions. Manage technical performance improvement programs, stressing quality control of service to clients. Directly responsible for the ongoing analysis as applications change to determine the impact of security mechanisms in place.Directly responsible for the goals/objectives for the department/project and accurately estimates resources (time/money/people) required to complete tasks/objectives.
Foresee resource requirements and analyzes/mitigates associated risk at the department/project or organization level.

    
    

10 + years related business experience. Requires knowledge of operating systems, relational database architecture, client/server technology, computer science, business data processing, database analysis and design theory skills, information engineering skills, transaction processing systems, relational database architecture, wide and local area networks, communications protocols, real-time systems, mission-critical systems, industry standards and FCC regulations, and various types of computer terminal equipment. Demonstrated analytical skills, problem solving skills and project management skills. Strong communication and writing skills. Ability to provide team leadership to various group levels of knowledge and sophistication. Extensive training in engineering disciplines including systems programming, systems design, computer technology and software disciplines. Operations management, project management, and system implementation management skills. Strong architectural, planning and engineering skills are required. Must be capable of using an architecture driven process to go from concept to finished product. Strong individual engineering skills are also a must. Bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience in Computer Science, Database Administration, MIS or Electrical Engineering required.
