A full-time opportunity is available for a Network Architect at Lifespan Health System, based in Providence, Rhode Island. 

Lifespan is a $1 billion not-for-profit health system that includes three teaching hospitals of Brown Medical School: Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children’s Hospital; The Miriam Hospital; and Bradley Hospital, the nation’s oldest psychiatric hospital for children. Lifespan also includes Newport Hospital, a community-based hospital in Newport, RI.

Under general supervision of the Manager of Network Services, responsible for enterprise level design of Lifespan’s converged voice/data/video communications network.  Focus on architectural engineering that encompasses performance, security, scalability, best practice design, and orchestration of service virtualization to provide application-aware, cost effective, network service delivery.  Responsible for performance management assurance and reporting on all enterprise-wide networks within Lifespan, and extranet connections to business partners, providers, and vendors. 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, IS, or related field.  Master’s Degree in business or technical field a plus.  Current certification in Cisco architectures, network security, virtualization, IP Telephony or other relevant technologies a plus.  Must have knowledge of the following focus areas:

•High availability, high capacity, multi layer (data/voice/video) network design

•Switching and routing design, including embedded security/performance intelligence

•Wide-area network protocols, including advanced, secure, logically partitioned network design

•Extranet technologies, including firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN)

•Wireless networking including LAN, dual mode, and point to point

•Network disaster recovery/satellite communications

Also required:

•Project management experience

•Excellent communication and presentation skills

•Ability to design technical solutions to meet business needs

Seven to 10 years increasingly responsible related work experience in network systems analysis/design, including at least two years of related engineering experience in a similar environment.
