- Ph.D. in biochemistry, biological engineering, or molecular biology and a minimum of 6 years postgraduate research experience in a relevant biotechnology setting related to Biologics development using engineered mammalian cell lines.
- First-hand experience in the use of multiple cell lines (e.g., CHO, NS0, BHK, HEK) at low-to- moderate process scale for the production of recombinant proteins, especially as it relates to vector design, expression optimization, and in depth evaluation of genetic parameters useful to clonal selection and gene amplification.
- Extensive experience in the use of orthogonal molecular genetic approaches to study critical post-translational pathways in mammalian cell lines. Such methods should include the use of current transcriptional profiling methods including quantitative, real-time PCR (qPCR) and the directed use of expression microarrays. It should also include the use of “reverse genetic” techniques for the targeted modulation of gene expression.
- Proven and effective experience in strategically managing commercial/contract research and manufacturing organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to bridge research based characterization with early process development.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in the mapping and cloning of gene homologues through comparative sequence analyses, cDNA library screening, homology cloning, and expression profiling would be very helpful.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of bioinformatics and systems-biology platforms for integrating cell line characterization and engineering, especially as it relates to protein glycosylation would also be helpful.
- In addition to these required scientific skill-sets, the qualified individual must possess outstanding analytical and communication skills, the ability to manage across functions, and a strong commitment to corporate goals and values.
- Title and position are commensurate with experience.
